This week on DIY Wednesday’s Sharrah and Greyson show you how to throw a creepy but classy Halloween party Robeson Design style 😉 Which decoration is your favorite?! Leave us your vote in the comments below!
1. Black Jack {$5-9}
Materials:
- Pumpkin
- Black spray paint
- Painting mask
Step 1: Wash
- Make sure your pumpkin is completely clean. You don’t want any dirt or leaves to be spray painted down so scrub them off beforehand!
Step 2: Spray Paint!
- Cover the pumpkin(s) in flat black spray paint. Allow 30 min to dry in the sun.
2. White Pumpkins {$10-22}
Materials:
- Pumpkins (enough to spell out your spooky word!)
- White spray paint
- Mask
- Stick on letters
- Hot glue (optional)
Step 1: Wash
- Make sure your pumpkin is completely clean. You don’t want any dirt or leaves to be spray painted down so scrub them off beforehand!
Step 2: Spray Paint!
- Cover your pumpkins in flat white spray paint (tip: DONT WEAR BLACK WHILE COMPLETING THIS STEP!)
Step 3: Spell
- Peel the backs off of your letters and stick them right on to your pumpkins. If you have trouble getting them to stick, or the paint comes off of your pumpkin, try using hot glue.
3. Bottle Candles {$10-30}
Materials
- 5-10 different heights of glass bottles with 1″ wide mouths
- 5-10 White/cream candle sticks
- Scissors
- White electric tape
- Lighter
Step 1: Cut your Candle Sticks
- Arrange your bottles to your liking and align the candle sicks next to the bottles to find the right heights for each candle.
- Once you find the correct candle heights, turn the candle stick as you squeeze the scissors and it should cut right through.
Step 2: Tape your Candle Sticks
- If the mouth of the bottle is too wide for the width of the candle stick, wrap the bottom of the candle with white electric tape to thicken the base of the candle so it will fit.
Step 3: Cut the Wick & Light!
- Make sure to cut your wicks down to no longer than 3/4″ inch so they burn longer
4. Bag-O-Lantern! {$3-5}
Materials:
- Brown paper bags
- Electric tea lights (1-3 per bag)
- Scissors
- Highlighter
Step 1: Line Em Up & Drop Em Down
- Line your walkway, backyard, or mantle with brown paper bags.
- Flip the switch on the tea light candles and drop them in each bag
Step 2: Cut out Jack-O-Lantern Face (optional)

5. Spooky Ghosts {$12.99-18.99}
Materials:
- Styrofoam ball
- Cheese cloth
- Scissors
- Felt
- Wire
Step 1: Cut Cheesecloth
- Open up your cheesecloth and cut it in half.
Step 2: Drape Cloth Over Ball
- Place half of it over the foam head in one direction and place the other half over the foam head a half turn from the first.
Step 3: Cut Strips
- Now take your scissors and cut vertical strips, pulling downward on the strips to make them more pointed and ragged.
Step 3: Cut Out the Eyes
- Using the black felt, cut out two comma shaped eyes and a mouth. You can create different expressions by turning the shapes different directions!
Step 4: Placing the Face
- Pull the cloth back and place the eyes and mouth on the foam head where you would like them.
- Hold them in place with your fingers as you carefully pull the cloth down over the eyes and mouth. Make sure to pull the cloth tight so it holds the eyes and mouth to the foam head.
Step 5: Insert the Hanging Hook
- Bend a paperclip in half, back and fourth until it breaks
- Curve it into a horse shoe shape and glob on 2 dots of hot glue (or any glue) to secure the hook to the head
- Cut enough wire to hang the ghosts from the hook you just glued in
Step 6: Add Ghostly Arms:
- Twist 2 feet of wire together, making a big loop on one end and two prongs on the other
- Once you’ve twisted together two wire arms, stick them onto either side of the foam head and make sure the arms are bent upwards
- Now, pull the cloth up over the arms and adjust them until they look right
- NOTE: When you cut the cloth for your ghost with arms, make sure you cut the strips of cheese cloth in a tapered form from the hands down to the tail, like a triangle shape
